It had nothing to do with making things look like WoW. Seriously.. where do you guys come up with this stuff?
The technical hurdles code and art had to overcome to make this happen AT ALL were enormous. In doing so, they've also learned a lot about what can actually be done, and what can't. Things will get better going forward. That I can assure you.
