Did this quest over the weekend and nearly lost my mind myself! (I almost wished I was at work so I could look up the spawn location... but maybe that's cheating?) :p
In the end (after swimming countless laps around the island), I did manage to find the stone pretty close to the location Zam had listed (-82, -770). Though according to my research... it can be found anywhere on the bottom of the lake west of the island.
Good luck. It's pretty small and blends in really well with the textures at the bottom of the lake.
