When you sign up for beta your name goes into a pool. When we open beta we invite some number of people at random from the pool (not sure how many, but it's thousands). Then periodically we invite a bunch more people at random to help refresh the population on the server as people lose interest.
We do specifically invite members of guilds that we are using for raid testing and probably friends and family (for those of us with friends and family...). We also invite the community representatives, we do our best to get them in as early as we can. Otherwise, it's all random. So if you didn't get invited, it's not because we don't like you.
