Aristo, I've played long enough to recall SOE responding publically to its dispute with Conquest.
Businesses can change policy as it suits them. But nonetheless one can't say "we never" when thee did. Most players can cite a number of cases when SOE took action in a way that was visable to the greater community.
There might be (there probably are) some very good reasons not to discuss these things. But at least in the case of Conquest there appears to have been an over-riding reason to discuss these things.
I was playing at the time, too. The current policies are in place because of those events and others like them.
