I guess I just viewed them differently.
I can go with a short staff as a 1 hander. I just tend to think of a stave as a 6 foot long stick (or some other material) and that is not really a one handed weapon. Now a 4 foot stick, could still be called a staff, and would of course work fine as a one hander.
