Because someone may send you a link to the item they received from the tower, so it needs to be available to you.
Before links... someone with that stuff may be in the same zone as you, so the server needs to be aware of every item.
Recipes... so you don't have load time while it goes and fetches recipes from a file somewhere.
Spells, for the same (second) reason as items.
Tasks for the same (second) reason as items.
