Can you explain in layman terms what this means?

IE: Less lag? Faster zoning? ect, ect.

It means less swapping (better performance all around) for people with computers that don't have much memory.

It means less swapping (better performance all around) for people that run several clients on the same machine.

It means less performance impact from all those familiars and illusions (though you still have the rendering impact).

It eventually will mean the artists can make prettier zones/NPCs, etc. because they won't be as memory constrained.

Anyone who has followed EQ development for a number of years will know that our engine was not designed to be dynamic in terms of its memory usage. What this change is doing is making it more dynamic, so assets get loaded in and kicked out as needed. Internally it is a big deal. For some players it will also be a big deal. For others, the hope is that it will go unnoticed. http://www.mapfiend.net/eq/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif
